Kathryn is a hard-driving, to the point street reporter who is able to extract the story with precision and grace. A fervor for journalism and genuine empathy for others fuel Kat’s energy to consistently deliver informative commentary on one of the fastest-paced newscasts in southern New England – WPRI / WNAC-TV, Providence.
Current, perceptive, hip, Kathryn has engaged her viewers during her three years at WPRI and has also appeared nationally on the Fox Report with Shepard Smith on WPRI’s national affiliate, FOX News. Her work has been picked up by CNN.com and NPR.org.
Kathryn came to WPRI from WMUR in Manchester, NH; WMTW in Portland, ME and WMGM in Atlantic City, NJ where she was a General Assignment Reporter. While in Manchester, Portland and Atlantic City, Kat covered a broad range of stories with both local and national interest, including interviewing presidential candidates in the 2008 primary.
Locally, Kathryn presents the news and issues WPRI’s viewing public cares about and she’s the lead reporter on emerging pivotal topics – from local corruption, to school closures, as well as impending contract and budgetary disputes. She was also tasked to deliver local coverage of the Miracle on the Hudson from New York City, especially since one of RI’s own summer ferries was the first rescue vehicle to reach the passengers so dramatically lined up on the aircraft’s wings.
Personal knowledge of Southern New England – its mood, its play-makers, its economy and dynamics – enable Kat to not only get the story, but to deliver the story with rigorous objectivity, engendering the trust of her audience. Promoted to anchor Channel 12’s weekend Eyewitness News This Morning, Kat clearly demonstrates her versatility, dedication and value.
She received a degree from Northeastern University in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science.
Besides a strong presence on camera, activities such as school reading events, walk-a-thons, career awareness days and scholarship judging all highlight Kat’s genuine sense of community.
